Chalmers: Postdoc in Fluid-Structure Interaction, Wind-Powered Ships
This postdoc is in the Division of Marine Technology, Department of Mechanical Engineering at Chalmers, with co-supervision from RISE and the Swedish shipping industry. The project studies how airflow around a wind propulsion system interacts with the system's structural response. It develops numerical methods for high-fidelity coupled simulation. The contract is two years with a possible one-year extension.
What you'll do
- Develop numerical methods and codes for fluid-structure interaction of wind-powered ships
- Run and analyse high-fidelity CFD and FEM simulations of the coupled flow and structural response
- Meet regularly with senior researchers and industrial partners, including workshops
- Write technical reports and publish in journals and at conferences
- Supervise master's and/or PhD students to some extent, and teach at undergraduate or master's level if you wish
Who can apply
- A doctoral degree in mechanical engineering, mathematics, physics, computer science or a relevant field of fluid or structural dynamics, held by the time of the employment decision
- Experience in computational fluid dynamics
- Programming experience, in particular Python and Matlab, plus CAD and CAE tools
- Strong written and spoken English, and the ability to work independently and in a team
- Meritorious: a doctorate from the last three years, HPC experience, and experience with coupling algorithms for fluid-structure interaction solvers
How to apply
Apply through the online form on the vacancy page, in English, as PDF files (max 40 MB each, no zip). Include a comprehensive CV with publication list and teaching experience, and a personal letter with your background, key results and future research goals. The deadline is 24 October 2026; email applications are not considered.
