Verterra Energy: Principal CFD Engineer, Hydrodynamic Systems

Posted 25 Oct 2026

Verterra Energy is commercialising VOLTURNUS, a water-power turbine for rivers, canals and oceans. It needs a Principal CFD Engineer to lead the computational fluid dynamics work on its turbine systems. The person works directly with mechanical and test engineers. The company is open to full-time, part-time or 1099 arrangements.

What you'll do

  • Build and run 3D CFD models of rotating turbine systems in open-water conditions
  • Model turbulent, unsteady and cyclic flow and support optimisation of blade and housing geometry
  • Define the turbulence models, mesh strategy, boundary conditions and validation criteria
  • Compare CFD results with flume and field test data
  • Extract pressure and force distributions for structural loading and fatigue estimates
  • Present results, trade-offs and uncertainty to design reviews

Who can apply

  • 8+ years of professional CFD experience (12+ for the Principal level)
  • Experience modelling external fluid flow systems
  • Experience with rotating machinery or turbine systems
  • A deep understanding of turbulence modelling and numerical stability
  • Experience correlating CFD results with physical testing and defining a modelling strategy independently
  • Preferred: marine, riverine or open-water flow modelling and cavitation prediction experience

How to apply

Apply on the Greenhouse form with a resume/CV and optionally a cover letter. You will also give your education, years of relevant experience and visa sponsorship needs. The page gives no selection steps or dates.
